Smells

Hello outside world!! It has been a crazy start to the summer, but things are starting to slow down. Thank goodness. We have ran to baseball practices and games, spent 4 days in Children’s Mercy Hospital with Amos for a ruptured appendix, keeping the garden weeded, football camp, and now junior golf starts. I mean could my schedule get any bigger!!!??? My kitchen has been a complete mess, I have not been able to cook a nice family meal for weeks, and our home has seen better days. If I had a job outside of the home I’m pretty sure my children would starve and our home would look like an episode of Hoarders! Hahaha

One thing that irritates me the most in our home (especially right now) are smells. Smells are something I have always struggled with in our home. Maybe it’s because I have a lot of children. I’m telling you it’s getting worse too! The boys are getting older so now I’m no longer fighting diaper odors……it’s all from their bodies!!!! What in the world did God put in them to make such awful smells, hahaha. Their shoes, batting gloves, their clothes, the bedding, everything they wear or touch SMELLS!!!!! Our school is now offering 7th and 8th grade football…..I remember very well what my brother’s football pads smelled like and I’ll have two kids playing!!! Ugh

Have you ever been to a house that has a fresh smell and everytime you go there it always smells the same? I’ve been to a lot of homes that smell wonderful every time we visit. How does someone do that?! I don’t like using chemicals to clean or freshen our home with, but I have tried some recently! I used fabric softener mixed with water for a room spray. Helped for maybe an hour. I use my living room essential oil diffuser, it’s just not a strong enough to cover the odors anymore. I tried Lysol (which smells horrible) and it did not cover the odor like the commercial stated! HELP!

Last week I walked back to the big boys bedroom and all five boys were in there at the same time. I opened the door, gagged, and had to stand in the hallway to talk to them, the odor was SO bad!!!! My first question was “Who didn’t take a shower today?!” Apparently a farting contest had gone on……WHAT?! Sometimes I just have to walk away. As I walked away I got on my phone and ordered essential oil diffusers for their bedrooms! I only have one teenager right now too……I can’t EVEN imagine how bad it’s going to get in a few years. Ahhhhhhh!!

As I battle fighting the smells of the men in my home, pray for Harper and I! Hahahahaha. We are taking our motorhome to Gulf Shores this summer so we will be living very close together for a week. Her and I will need LOTS of prayers!!!!!

My patient, he was a trooper! Children’s Mercy Hospital is amazing. They had BINGO night, Amos won some good prizes.

Renovation

Almost 10 years ago we ran across this old farm house that sits behind a neighborhood all by itself on almost 5 acres. It was a foreclosure property and we knew that it was the place for us to build our family. People warned us often how remodeling a home can cause a rocky marriage. We thought they were crazy……umm turns out they were right!!

We didn’t choose to keep it a simple remodel either! Brian tore out every wall inside and out, replacing everything, and adding on to the structure of the house.

On top of the renovation we had three boys under the age of 3 and Brian worked 10+ hours through the week at his job. The rocky part was moving into the house before it was completely finished! The boys were into all the tools, materials, etc. A lot of tears were shed by yours truly! Miraculously we made it through ( Praise Jesus!!!) and have a beautiful and cozy home.

In a recent post I talked about our kitchen and bedroom addition. I also said I would post pictures……Brian DID finish the trim that next day. He wanted me to make sure I shared that! Hehehehe. I just got busy with mom life and wasn’t able to post. Here are pictures of our new kitchen!! Fyi, some of them were taken this winter (hints the Garland above window, haha).

Yes my pantry is a mixture of tools and food for the moment! That’s my next project after baseball is over!!

Family

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day, which is special in itself. A day to thank our mother’s for raising us and being there when we need them. A day to thank God for letting our mothers bring us into this world. A day to thank God for allowing a young woman to give birth and raise our Savior. A day to thank Mother Mary for accepting the responsibility of being a mother to Jesus and to all of us sinners.

This Mother’s Day was even more special for us. Amos, our fourth son, celebrated his First Holy Communion. He had a wonderful teacher (Aunt Joy!!) who does a great job preparing the kids through the year. We are SO proud of him

Brian and I hosted a brunch afterwards for our families. Since we didn’t want to ask everyone to come back the following Sunday for Harper’s 2nd birthday, we decided to throw that in as well!! Three celebrations in one party….lol. Thanks for the cakes Aunt Tess!

We are all still in awe that God blessed us with this little girl. She brings us lots of laughter, love with her hugs and kisses, and teaches all of us how to hold her baby dolls the correct way! Hahaha

It was so wonderful having family here at our home. We missed the ones who couldn’t make it and were thankful for the ones that could. Family is so important to us and to be in a big family is even better! To watch the teens and college cousins grow into adults is amazing. They still show the younger kids love and play with them. They have no idea how it makes the little ones feel and how much love they have for the older cousins. It makes my heart melt.

God has truly blessed us.

Harper Has A Friend

Last week I posted about being worried Harper will have no friends…..this week at the ball game she played nice with a boy named Preston!!! It was in a water puddle and with cars, but at this point I am thrilled she was able to play with someone without punching or pushing them down!!

Now, there was another little girl that tried to play with them. When we heard crying we turned around and that girl (who looked like the same age) was in the arms of her grandma pointing at Harper! I would like to think it had nothing to do with my precious daughter…….wishful thinking at this point!!

We’ll keep working on it!

My Life

Homeschooled

Three years ago Brian and I made the choice to homeschool our children. We wanted them to have a more Christian based learning method and wanted to spend more time with them. Brian was working a lot of hours and didn’t get to see the boys as much as he’d like. It was challenging, rewarding, an emotional rollercoaster, and a blessing all in one. We decided that we would homeschool until 6th grade and hope that our boys would be Christian leaders for their peers. Plus…..I wasn’t sure I could teach the middle school math or science!!! hahahaha Kail and Bryer are in middle school now and are both on the Honor Roll. Kail is getting inducted into the National Honor Society in a few weeks!

Well …..that’s all I made it! Three years!!!!!! After Harper was born in 2017, the attention went straight to her. Which it should, she is the baby and the only girl! However, she needs more attention than any of our boys did at this toddler stage! We have really struggled this year with trying to keep her entertained and happy during our school time. It just got to be too much. And on top of that, I think my boys are tired of listening to me all day and night! Hahahah

We as a family decided that next year we would go back into the public school and just make sure to have our Christian teachings here at home. The school suggested that we start coming in for specials (music, art, pe, library) everyday so that the kids can get familiar with the school and teachers. Our second week into that the boys asked if they could finish the year out full time in the school! They were excited about school and learning there. That was something that I hadn’t seen really at all this year here at home. They are now finished with their third week and LOVE it! Plus they are each in class with their best friends. BLESS ALL THE TEACHERS!!!!!!

I am sad that our homeschool days are over. But we have so many great memories from the past three years. Shortly after our first year started, we decided to add on to our home. The boys would finish school and spend the rest of the afternoon learning construction with their dad.

This was the beginning of our construction in 2015. Amos was begging to use the jack hammer!!! He was 5 at this time.
2015
This is the old front of our home! It got completely dug out and added onto!
2016
Liam and daddy installing basement window
2016
Dining room wall successfully knocked through!
2017
New kitchen is framed in!
The boys loved hammering nails into the studs, pulling them out, and hammering some more when Brian didn’t have a job for them! HAHAHA

The kitchen is almost complete now! I’ve been able to use it for almost a year and it is like a dream. All Brian has left is to hang our pantry door and frame around it. Then, after a very very (I mean VERY!!! LOL) long time our kitchen will be 100% FINISHED!!!! I will post pics tomorrow. And if I don’t, well that means life happened and something else came up!! We were blessed with so many great memories from our homeschool years. The boys got the chance to experience hands on skills, spend extra time with their dad, and learn how our faith and Gods grace in us can lead them to do great things. God has blessed Brian with carpentry knowledge and patience. I pray our boys are blessed to become men like their father.
